Bell’s Voice Rings Loud in Leicestershire

Martin Bell gave a voice to the public’s anger following the MPs scandal this summer, and has encouraged local Leicestershire independents to stand against Keith Vaz MP and Alan Duncan MP in the next election.

Speaking to the Leicester Mercury, Bell said, "Ideally, the two Independent candidates for Leicester East & Melton and Rutland should be local, well-known people and not of the political class.'' The newspaper believes that one of the people Mr Bell has been speaking to is a retired professional woman, who lives in Leicester East, who is considering standing against Keith Vaz. Martin Bell is encouraging people to visit the Independent Network to find out more about the association and its values, and contact them if they want to find out more about standing as an independent candidate.

Bell stated his hope that the introduction of more independents into parliament would help repair and restore the British people’s faith in government. He applauds Sir Thomas Legg, a retired Whitehall permanent secretary, for new limits and retrospective caps on MPs expenses.
